Dream Weaving

Can't you just totally see me in this jacket? Lounging by the fireplace, reading Costco catalogs? Some day, I'ma' own that dream.

I don't know what I am doing searching terms like "Cats sweater" on ebay. Not at this time of the year anyway. It's been dead hot! I've been all sweaty tanks and shorts, working outside on the island all summer. What a treat that job has turned out to be. Yesterday I spent 5 hours doing shaving cream paper marbling with kids!

I've got a flickr set going of my projects on the island. And a million more adorable, artsy things can be seen at the CMA Blog, including loads of claymation and stop animation movies done in the media lab - Like this!

Stumbling Uponings

One thing about big city is that sometimes you will accidentally walk by something you have seen or heard about on the internet! The good side of that is that sometimes you walk by this!

Goodness gracious and I just got to walk in and look around at all these treats for free! Lucky me, it was the last day of the exhibition.

The name to know is Michael Velliquette, the game to play is cut and glue. It's all made straight out of Commericially Colored Cardstock.

Seen left and right are his TOWERS in whole. Above back up there is a detail.

There is more of this here here here here here here here here!

I'm a sucker for obsessively detailed work, of course - check his web hole to see what I mean.

Zonker

Got new glasses again ! They make me feel really cool.

This is what happened today while nodding off for my afternoon nap:

I wish I was in a sea bed right now. Sea bed... or river bed. "Truck bed?"
Forest floors, cliff walls, and the sea bed. "Ocean shelves can go on the cliff walls"
The ceiling can be like, stars, what is the expression? Canopy of stars?
And what do you call those mountains that look like tables? "Mesas, it's Spanish for table"
"We can eat with river forks off of tectonic plates."
But what are we going to sit on? Elephant stools?

Zonk!

Power Trippin'

After a long pathetic winter of unemployment and sinus infections, I am at last sort of having a life again! I found some jobs, and have even been leaving my house occasionally for recreation!

I am a teaching artist for the Children's Museum of the Arts in Manhattan. I'm planning, managing, and then working at the Museums summer programing on a little Eden just a 5 minute ferry ride away from the city grime called Governor's Island . I'M GOING TO HAVE INTERNS! That's the best part, of course. I love power so much!

Surprise I have TWO jobs ! I'm also currently getting PAID to do the same painting I was doing months ago as an unpaid intern at the InsanityIlluminationFoundation in East Hampton. I'm still having issues with my boss lady, but it's easier to handle now that you know, I'm getting paid.

She's a real crack, right? Listen, after she dropped off the images for me to work on last Thursday she told me she was going to be at a silent retreat all weekend, "but" she said, "if you have any questions, just text me!"

Right? Where do I find these people? Plus side though, since she made it totally clear that she needs me working for her, since she just can't work her own miniatures like I can, I get to throw down little slices of attitude whenever she pisses me off the rim. I love power. Like, yesterday, I confronted her for something big and important she'd forgotten, and as she was apologizing for the twentieth time about how forgetful she is and how she just can't keep track I said straight up, girl "self analysis without self-improvement is just vanity." Jeah, Chew on that up your butt!!!

Coming out of my winter cave hasn't been easy though. Two months in bed watching netflix and spitting into tissues hasn't exactly improved my socializing skills. I can't tell if what I think is funny sounds funny, or if it just sounds psychotic. Also vice versa, if you know what I mean. I like to think that is a common problem though, so maybe, (even worse) the issue is that MAYBE I STILL CAN SOCIALIZE JUST FINE AND I WHAT I'VE LOST IS MY OFFENSIVELY HIGH SELF CONFIDENCE!!!!

Yesterday, Sassoon-Mitchell came over and sculpted my hair into some mad sexy alien helmet thing and after we'd exhausted talking about the music which I'd put on, and all music like it, and then jimmy hendrix just for good measure, all I could think to talk about was the side effects of the bad plumbing in my apartment! Sheesh.

Wish me luck!

Unemployment Collection

So, while scoping S.Blanco's latest documentation of 'playa' status on facebook, the following advertisement caught my eye.

As 'Depressing' wasn't an option, I ended up just canceling the thumbs down.

On Blogging

I live in New York now, it's very exciting! One day, Hannah and I saw someone on my street (in Brooklynnn) eating china spaghetti out of a box (that once upon a time, I remembered, jr.high maybe? could pass as a purse if you were in like, art club?) Something about the way the noodles slapped against his chest hit us both at once with an unconquerable craving for a noodle lunch to call our own, so we JMZ'd straight in to the heart of China and sat ourselves at the restaurant pictured above (it was February). They gave us a very, very strange tea. It made us very quiet, and confused. They were watching a game show with a very, very round woman in a unitard and tutu who was contorting her body to fit through a hoop that of course appeared too small for her very round body. She was so taut in that unitard, it was remarkable.

One thing I love to do here is eat really incredible food all the time. It's everywhere! It's the best! Another thing I like to do here is shop too much. I have so many matching tropical plants on my windowsills, they look so full of something when everything behind them is covered in snow, winter is a marshmallow world, you know! In addition to these plants, I have a small collection of rocks, shells, and sticks which I started bringing home from East Hampton when I knew I was soon leaving it for good!

And what good it was when I left! What an experience THAT was! Ask me about it personally, privately, for I disclaimed my right to comment negatively about the foundation. Regardless of the insanity, the whole thing looks amazing on my resume - produced limited edition hand gilded art publication, contributed to works exhibited in major NYC galleries, developed and applied non-profit fundraising and event planning strategies, participated in board meetings and led event planning meetings- by the way if you need help updating your resume, I think I have truly mastered that particular language art.

Finally, I would like to formally announce that I was accepted in to one of the two grad schools I decided to apply to just weeks before the deadlines approached, and that I will in fact be living in New York for a bit longer in order to attend NYU for my masters in Art Education. This news probably includes some kind of enviable summer studio art program in Italy, and the guarantee of eating pizza for dinner for the next few nights to celebrate! YES IT DOES! I EARNED THAT PIZZA!!

UPDATE: Just had pizza for breakfast!

Right!

Man, I just have no fucking clue !!

Monday, June 2, 2008

oh hai !

SO
I'm at a cafe! This is the first time I've ever gone public with my internet addiction (which has been really hard on my shoulders since I've been unemployed) because the air conditioning here is so much better than it is in the house, and it's nearing 100 degrees outside. The average temperature for the month of May is 85, but it was near 100 every day! The average temperature for the month of June is 92, so that means it'll be near 107 every day? Hard boiled, man.

So I just heard that Bo Diddley died a couple hours ago , which is sad but okay 'cause he was pretty old anyway and I bet it's really boring to just be old after having been Bo Diddley for so long, BUT it's weird too, because a couple hours ago I was getting out of the shower and thought that I heard a ghost humming to me, but really I'd just forgotten that I'd left my Pod on shuffle and it was just Bo Diddleying to me softly from the other room. SO NOW I know it WAS a ghost!!!

I know it

"I'm strong men, but I cry again. I cry always, when I listen this song! Really beautifull song!"
-pavlik1990 (5 hours ago)

I know there are better songs from the 90s to be looking up on youtube, but there aren't better songs from the 90s to look up on youtube that I used to sing any time I was lucky enough to be alone in a public bathroom in Jr.high.
Well, there aren't many, anyway.

I liked my job, I could do it again, even. MAYBE I WILL! I'm going to miss my 80 urban babes, they taught me so much. Like what it means to "make a grizzly bear."

Country Mouse

Aiiiie am I terrible at keeping this blog!! Today is 4/20, happy holidaze to all! Sit down to be small, stand up to be tall!!!

I am keeping myself indoors today with hopes that I will get so bored I will clean the house, but so far all I've done is make fried rice, and chow it down in front of other peoples blogs.

Austin has been a holiday, constantly, except for the rare hours that I'm actually working.
I've been spending a good deal of time on my front porch with my best man, drinking & smoking and watching thunder storms and the weeds in our yard spring up. Spring!! Spring looks great on this city. Yesterday we went for a dip in one of the rivers, sun bathed in the shallows on top of a baby waterfall, hot top, cold bottomzzz, what holiday!! The skyline from my porch has turned a fantastic neonish green, the birds are singing like troplicalia, and on friday I saw my very first fire fly. What a south we've got, here!

Last night was slow so after some porch waiting, we got up and wandered towards some noises we heard. We ended up getting pulled into a neighbors house to witness in a good ol' country jam. Ha! So surreal! So funny!!

"What's all this we shit? You got a rat in your pocket?"

SXSW was crazy, proper, I'm not sure where to begin really. It was a huge festival, and really felt like a huge festival, duhhhh. I saw some good things and had blastssssss..

OKAY so last sunday, Dan and I went to Psychedelic Sunday at the Cathedral of Junk! The Cathedral of Junk is this amazing collection of crap in someones back yard which has been tangled and welded together into this three story elaborate club house type thing.

Also in the yard, on this Sunday, was a large group of people and an even larger group of electronics making a psychedelic soundtrack for my trek through the tresses.

I am really happy with all of the pictures I got of the place, so you can now see them all on my flickr!

I even posted some videos!

wild life

Today will be my last day of work before spring break starts!!
In Austin, instead of waiting for easter to have spring break (to suggest that the holiday is really about the children), all schools call T.O. and let their employees out for the week of South by Southwest!!!!
I'm pretty stoked on this, as all I've been able to get out of the locals about what sxsw will be like is that it is absolutely crazy and that I'm probably going to be drunk for a week straight.

This picture is of some wildlife I interacted with in the city.

This is so in the city! Like, so totally smack dab in it that those concrete tree trunks in the background are holding up the two sides of the main freeway that runs through the place. Yo yo ma!

Here is my house:
